KidSuper’s Colm Dillane Brings Brooklyn Designers to NYFW
Beauty lovers with an eye for culture, you’re going to appreciate this one. The whisper around New York was that KidSuper might be making a surprise return to the NYFW runway. While the calendar chatter lit up group chats, the reality is even more exciting—and closer to home for Brooklyn. Think community, creativity, and a runway designed for the people.
KidSuper’s NYFW buzz, decoded
Yes, the brand did appear on the official CFDA schedule, which sparked plenty of speculation. But here’s the update: KidSuper will continue to show in Paris next season.
That said, founder and designer Colm Dillane isn’t sitting out New York. He’s channeling his energy into The People’s Runway, a Brooklyn-first celebration of style and storytelling.
Introducing The People’s Runway
Staged right on the steps of Brooklyn Borough Hall on Sept. 14 at 8 p.m., this open-air show spotlights five emerging designers shaping what fashion looks like right now in Brooklyn.
Dillane, who also serves as the inaugural Brooklyn Arts Ambassador, partnered with Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso to select the lineup. After reviewing hundreds of submissions, they handpicked five talents to take the stage.
Meet the designers redefining the borough
- Ahmrii Johnson: A Bahamian American designer and artist merging Caribbean craft, botanical references, and Indigenous techniques into richly textured pieces.
- Daveed Baptiste: Born in Haiti, he explores migration and cultural memory with garments that hold space for tradition and modern identity.
- Kent Anthony: An African American designer offering a refined, future-facing lens on luxury within Black design.
- Rojin Jung: The child of immigrants who translates personal history and heritage into sharp, contemporary silhouettes.
- Shriya Myneni: An Indian-born creative focused on deconstruction and reconstruction—designs that rethink form, purpose, and possibility.
Mentorship that makes a difference
Beyond the runway moment, each designer is receiving guidance from Dillane himself. His path—building a brand from Brooklyn, collaborating with major names, and learning through community—shapes a mentorship that’s meant to be actionable, real, and deeply empowering.
A borough-wide love letter to creativity
For President Reynoso, this project recognizes fashion as a living language. Across neighborhoods, designers are using garments to tell family stories, uplift communities, and show the world what Brooklyn looks like through their eyes.
Dillane echoes that spirit. For him, The People’s Runway is about giving creators a stage—and the tools to keep going long after the lights go down. It’s tangible, it’s inclusive, and it’s built for the next generation.
How to attend
The People’s Runway is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis the evening of the show.
- Date and time: Sept. 14 at 8 p.m.
- Location: Outside Brooklyn Borough Hall
