Q: How did Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary get its start?
A: The sanctuary began when my daughter, just nine years old at the time, expressed a deep concern for parrots in need. Her passion sparked the creation of a sanctuary, and I couldn’t agree more with her insight!
Q: What does a typical day at the sanctuary look like?
A: Every day starts with preparing an array of fruits and veggies for our feathered friends, which can take up to four hours! After feeding, my team and I clean aviaries, address any needed repairs, and engage with our parrots to ensure they get plenty of attention.
Q: What are some misconceptions people often have about parrots?
A: Many people underestimate the commitment required to care for parrots, including their long lifespan and social needs. They are absolutely captivating but require significant attention and love.
Q: Do you have a favorite parrot at the sanctuary?
A: I don’t have a singular favorite, but I have a soft spot for our African grey parrots, who often face misunderstanding from the public. Every parrot here is special!
Q: If your parrots could speak, what do you think they’d say?
A: I believe they would express their gratitude for the second chance at life that we’ve given them. Many have experienced tough circumstances, and it’s heartwarming to be able to love and care for them.
